Generac 5622 GP Series GP5000 Home Generator Review

Being the first offering from Generac that we've had our hands on - we didn't quite know what to expect before completing this review. Traditionally, Generac have provided products such as home generators to commercial / private buyers - with little thought for the general public.

It seems they have had a change of heart with the Generac 5622 GP Series GP5000 model however. Despite the fact that it is a non-CARB compliant model - there is still a lot going for it, as we quickly found out.

Power Output
Clocking in at 5,000 watts of rated continuous power and 6,250 watts of surge power, Generac seem to be targeting the average power consumer with this product. In comparative studies, it was found that 5000 watts is the minimum amount recommended for powering a household's essential appliances only - so for example, no computers, TV's etc - but everything that keeps your house running efficiently - such as hot water, the fridge, etc.

In our own experiences, we would recommend this power rating for a household with below average general power needs - as consumer appliances these days are getting very power hungry.

Engine Details
The Generac 5622 GP Series GP5000 features a 389cc rated engine, which is powered by standard gas. The fuel tank on the machine is solid steel - which provides for added safety when refilling. All in all, the weight of the machine is just less than 220 pounds - not all that bad for the power output rating.

One thing which is specifically worth a mention when it comes to the engine is the maintenance reset function. There is an inbuilt "hour meter" on the side of the product which shows how long the total operational life of the machine has been - and this ultimately allows for precision servicing and maintenance.

Onboard Technology
Aside from the obvious technology, such as the hour meter and the low oil indication - there isn't much else in the way of miracle advancement here. A few things are worth nothing though. The petrol tank does have a gage in it - allowing you to easily see how full the tank is.

Additionally, the entire generator is set on a movable frame, which allows you to transport the Generac 5622 GP Series GP5000 anywhere you might like, without having to order a crane or a bodybuilder to do the heavy lifting. For this reasons alone, first time home generator buyers may be very interested in this product.

Our Rating of Generac 5622 GP Series GP5000 Home Generator
We found that the Generac 5622 GP Series GP5000 is great - but not overly unbelievable. If you are looking for a reliable home generator, this particular model should definitely be on your considerations list - as we give it 4.5 stars.

Unfortunately, it's not CARB compliant, so consumers in California will have to look elsewhere for a home generator solution. But for everyone else - given the features and the affordable pricing - the Generac 5622 GP Series GP5000 is a great buy.
